Paver Calculator

Plan a rectangular patio with one paver module size. Estimate pieces, complete packs, geometric base and bedding volumes, and the full perimeter.

Enter your measurements, then select Calculate.

How many pavers do I need?

Enter the length and width of a rectangular patio, then the installed module dimensions of one paver. The module is the area a piece occupies in the finished pattern. If the manufacturer lists nominal dimensions including the joint, use those dimensions without adding another joint gap.

The calculator divides project area by paver module area, adds your cutting allowance and rounds up to whole pieces. It then rounds to the pack size you enter. Set pavers per pack to 1 when buying loose pieces. Cost uses the purchased quantity after pack rounding.

Worked example: 12 × 10 foot patio

A 120-square-foot patio with 8 × 4 inch modules needs 540 pavers before allowance. With 10% extra, the order target is 594 pieces. Buying packs of 100 means 6 packs or 600 pavers. At 0.75 per piece, the paver cost is 450. A 4-inch base has a geometric volume of about 1.481 cubic yards; a 1-inch bedding layer is about 0.370 cubic yards.

Are base and sand quantities included?

Yes, as geometric volumes at your selected finished depths. They do not include loose-material compaction, excavation overbuild or delivery allowances. Get the appropriate construction section and ordering conversion from your supplier or installer. The default depths are editable examples, not a specification for your ground or traffic.

Does this work for mixed-size patterns?

This tool estimates a single repeated rectangular module. For multi-size packs, use manufacturer coverage per pack and the required pattern mix. An area calculation cannot determine border cuts, curved edges, laying orientation or the exact number of each size.

What about polymeric sand and edging?

Bedding sand volume is separate from jointing sand. Polymeric sand coverage depends on joint dimensions and product data. The perimeter result is the full rectangle perimeter before deducting edges against walls or other restraints; it is an estimate for planning edging.

Can I calculate a UK patio in metres?

Select metres/centimetres, enter patio dimensions in metres and paver dimensions and layer depths in centimetres. Switching units reinterprets the numbers, so update your inputs. Costs use your entered price without assuming a currency. Labour, tax, delivery and base-material prices are excluded.

Reference: Belgard installed paver dimensions. Always check your chosen product's coverage.
