Grout Calculator

Estimate grout for rectangular wall or floor tiles. Use a dimensional estimate with your product’s density, or switch to a manufacturer coverage figure for your exact tile and joint sizes.

Changing a unit selector reinterprets the numbers; it does not convert your entries. Update the inputs before calculating. Prices are examples in your own currency.

Enter your measurements, then select Calculate.

How to estimate grout quantity

In dimension mode, the approximate consumption in kg/m² is (tile length + tile width) × joint width × filled joint depth × mixed density ÷ (tile length × tile width). Dimensions are millimetres and density is kg/L. Multiply by area and your allowance, then divide by pack mass and round up. This conventional approximation is for regular rectangular tiling.

Worked example

For 20 m² of 300 × 300 mm tiles, 3 mm joints, 8 mm filled depth and an example density of 1.6 kg/L, the estimate is 0.256 kg/m². That is 5.12 kg before allowance or 5.632 kg with 10% extra. In 2 kg packs, round up to 3 packs. At 15 per pack, the cost is 45.

Which density should I enter?

Use your selected grout’s technical data, not a universal value. The 1.6 kg/L starting value illustrates the density used in SikaCeram-707 guidance; it is not a recommendation for other products. Pack mass and price are editable examples. Epoxy kits and cement grout can have different yields. Use coverage mode if the manufacturer provides coverage for your exact installation.

What changes the result?

Smaller tiles and wider or deeper joints usually require more grout per square metre. Use the filled depth, not automatically the entire tile thickness. Irregular tiles, mosaics, uneven joints and cleaning losses can alter demand. This tool excludes adhesive, movement-joint sealant and masonry core fill. Coverage mode ignores the tile, density and pack-mass fields.
